What the fuck, America?
I feel as bad for yesterday’s shooter as I do for the victims and their families. I think it’s a failure on everybody when something like this happens. He obviously felt he had no other option and that breaks my heart. I am in no way excusing his actions, I just think that instead of blaming video games and song lyrics, people should look around their own communities and reach out to kids who are obviously hurting.
Nothing will ever change if you don’t address the root of the problem. Kids don’t just wake up one morning and decide to do something as drastic as shooting up their high school cafeterias. Something bad happened to this boy that either went unnoticed or was ignored and because of that his future is gone, as well as the futures of those poor kids who were killed.
The most sickening thing was seeing this story sandwiched between speculation on whether Natalie Portman is married or not and the “breaking news” of Uma Thurman’s third pregnancy. It’s very clear where our society has placed its priorities, and it’s not on these children.
We should all be embarrassed.
